My Bio — Kimberly Anne

Author Selfie — Reading one of my PNR Books

Welcome to my posts! I’m Kimberly Anne (KA) and I’d like to tell you a little bit about who I am, what I hope to accomplish (give back) and where I’m headed.

The topics I write about here on Medium include: digital nomading, vanlife/living in a van, productivity, writing, financial freedom, exercise/aerial, the “you’re never too old” series, motivation, accountability, sobriety, passions, health and wellness and psychology.

When I was ten years old, I interviewed my amazing uncle Abe. They featured the interview I wrote in the school newspaper. I suspect that my love of writing stemmed from my love of reading. Growing up, my parents encouraged us to read together as a family each night, instead of watching TV. Every few weeks we went to the public library and picked out our new books. I devoured everything I could get my tiny hands on.

In college I got my degree in screenwriting and wrote several screenplays.

But life had other plans.

I ended up freelancing in television. I wrote, produced, directed and acted in dozens of television shows (nothing well known) for fifteen years. I loved it until I didn’t.

You see, when I was younger I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe I could make a living doing what I loved, which has always been writing and traveling.

I was raised to believe the lie of the American dream. Work hard, get married, buy a house with a white picket fence, have 2.5 kids. Raise those kids while both parents hold down two full-time jobs and eventually, in your sixties or seventies you can retire and then, if you’re lucky, you can finally pursue your lifelong dreams.

And I tried to follow that prescription, I really did. But the harder I tried, the more miserable I became. Even as an optimist, you can’t stave off lifelong desires.

After returning to school for a master’s degree, I earned my overhead through an entrepreneurial day job that didn’t make me want to scream. During the subsequent fifteen years, I spent every free second chasing my passions of writing and traveling. I wrote and published eleven novels in two years before I burnt out and had to stop writing for a year. Since returning to that love, I’ve completed five novels and numerous short stories, but I work at a slower pace now. And I’ve traveled as much as I possibly could, working so hard to sustain my trips.

I was the boss, so I could choose to retire. I saved enough to start on the next leg of my journey, achieving my next dream; traveling and writing full time.

This summer I’m moving into a campervan to travel around the United States and in 2022 I’m moving to Europe. As I’m wont to do, I will track my progress through blogging and novel writing.

This is a snippet of me but I’m far from two dimensional. I have a huge list of passions beyond the few I’ve mentioned so far.

I am an aerialist, which I started in my forties. I got clean and sober in 2008. I am an animal lover, a dog mom, a sushi addict (I started eating sushi when I was six). I began a podcast in Sept of 2020 called An Unknown Adventure. I still read daily and play video games (not daily). I love life and through my podcast and writing, my goal is to encourage other people to achieve their dreams too.

You’re never too old, too young or too infirm to reach for the stars and catch them!

Thank you for reading! I’d love to inspire you even more through my bi-monthly newsletter.
