Welcome! I’m Kimberly Anne (KA).

For a year I lived in a van (solo with my sick, aging dog) and traveled throughout the US. I now live in Portugal. I moved here, sight unseen, by myself, without knowing anyone in September of 2022.

First and foremost I’m a writer. I’m also an adventurer…

I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember.

When I was ten years old, I interviewed my amazing uncle Abe. They featured the interview I wrote in the school newspaper. I suspect that my love of writing stemmed from my love of reading. Growing up, my parents encouraged us to read together as a family each night, instead of watching TV. Every few weeks we went to the public library and picked out our new books. I devoured everything I could get my tiny hands on.

In college I got my degree in screenwriting and wrote several screenplays.

But life had other plans.

I ended up freelancing in television. I wrote, produced, directed and acted in dozens of television shows (nothing well known) for fifteen years. I loved it until I didn’t.

I took a circuitous dream achieving route.

You see, when I was younger I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe I could make a living doing what I loved, which has always been writing and traveling.

I was raised to believe the lie of the American dream. Work hard, get married, buy a house with a white picket fence, have 2.5 kids. Raise those kids while both parents hold down two full-time jobs and eventually, in your sixties or seventies you can retire and then, if you’re lucky, you can finally pursue your lifelong dreams.

And I tried to follow that prescription, I really did. But the harder I tried, the more miserable I became. Even as an optimist, you can’t stave off lifelong desires.

After a failed twenty year marriage and several failed entrepreneurial careers, I finally found a rhythm in my early forties.

After returning to school for a master’s degree, I earned my overhead through an entrepreneurial day job that didn’t make me want to scream. During the subsequent fifteen years, I spent every free second chasing my passions of writing and traveling. Thus far I’ve written 25 novels and published seventeen.

In 2021, I turned fifty-five and retired from my brick and mortar day job.

I was the boss, so I could. I saved enough to start on the next leg of my journey, achieving my next dream; traveling and writing full time.

I lived in a van for a year, traveling through the US.

I became an aerialist in my forties. I got clean and sober in 2008. I am an animal lover and a vegan (I don’t shame those who aren’t). I interviewed travelers and people achieving their dreams for a year on a podcast (that’s still available) called An Unknown Adventure. I read daily and play video games. I love my life! My goal is to encourage other people to achieve their dreams too.

You’re never too old, too young or too infirm to reach for the stars and catch them!
